Kennel Ivegill´s (Birgitta Bäckman,Sweden) www.ivegills.com

The story of Kennel Ivegill´s Birgitta Bäckman, Sweden.

To begin with can I tell you what a small world we live in.

Chicki Runnqvist, kennel Zchatsaj´s, as a child spent her Summer in the house I live in today.

I  grew up with an Elkhound who was my protector when I was a child.

1968 a saw my first Borzoi it was Tzar´s Gozov a big Mahognycoloured male.

At that time I was interested in German Shepherd and bought my first one 1972, and 1973 I bought an English Cockerspaniel. They lived until they ware 12 years.

1985 a buy my dreamdog an Irisch Wolfhound my happiness was complete. But it was a very sick dog and he only lived 2˝ year.

1987 I get my first Borzoi, I was with a friend in Norway to show her Borzoi Baccarat Easter Poacher “Charles”, a self-black male.

We visit a breeder Eli Forseth, and she had one puppy left out of a litter Rosenhill´s Climbing Rozanna “Zanna”, and they was moving to another place so she lived in a cage, so she couldn’t get hurt.

I fall in love. And I still am.

Well I bring her home and that was the start of kennel Ivegill´s.

1988 was my husband and I going to North Ireland to bring an Irish Wolfhound puppy back with us. But the bitch didn’t get any puppies.

But we had planned the trip, so I called Sylvia Marston kennel Falconcrag up and ask if we could come and visit. We were very welcome. I visit Sylvia the first time 1985 with the owner “Charles”, the breeder of “Zanna”, and the breeder of Tzar´s Gozov.

When we arrived, the first thing Sylvia said, come and look, do you want to have this male, a big black/white Borzoi he was 89 cm high. Yes I sad, I like him. So then the paperwork start, and only one-day late we go back home with Mariinsky Eugan of Falconcrag.

Where Sylvia lives is a valley with a creek called Ivegill so there I get my Kennel´s name.

I had my first litter 1990 with Rosenhill´s Climbing Rozanna and CH LeiCro´s Znowstorm, 6 puppies, a lovely litter to look at, and all looks nearly the same. But the combination was not quite good in health so I never continue with them.

The same year in November I get Babotjka´s Anna-Karinina, she was a puppy I get after Mariinsky Eugan of Falconcag when another breeder use him for her bitch.

Then in the summer 1992 my next litter was born Rosnehill´s Climbing Rozanna and Mariinsky Eugan of Falconcrag, 2 bitches was born, red/white very lovely, sorry that I didn’t keep one of them. But you can always be afterwise.

In October 1992, I went to England, to the English 100-year jubilee. I also was there to pick up a male from Ireland, from Dermot Drum, Marrinsky Grozan and a bitch from Sylvia Marston, Falconcrag Othario.

My next litter was born in March 1993, after Olagus Derskaja Dikara “Mimmi” and Mariinsky Eugan of Falconcrag 7 puppies.

Next step come in 1994 I went to England to pick up Falconcrag Guilder in February.

In March my next litter was born Such Babotjka´s Anna Karenina and Mariinsky Grozan 11 puppies, but 2 died the first week.

Then in May the same year next litter come, Falconcrag Guilder and Mariinsky Grozan, 3 bitches was born. This was the time when I thought: Do I really begin to reach were I wanted to be in the breeding now?

I repeat that combination again in 1996 in August 8 puppies was born,I have Ivegill´s Lady Lihnya and Such Ivegill´s Lady Ludmilla on the kennel today and Ludmilla have had 2 litters, one with Such Dkuch Majorow´s Maksimov, 9 puppies and I’m very pleased with them, they are today 22 months old, and look very nice. I have Ivegill´s Lady Easter Witch here to go on breeding with, and 2 brothers Ivegill´s Lord Eater Bunny and Easter Twig.

Easter Twig make him self a father together with his mother Ludmilla in October 2000 5 puppies, I have saved a bitch out of that litter Ivegill´s Lady Autumn Birch.

So now after 10 years I am in breeding where I ever wanted to be.

I have my Black/white and Black Borzois with tan-markings I personally love this colour, but a nice Borzoi don’t depend of the colour. They are very English in type exactly what I want to have. They have a lovely temperament, good teethstatus and a lovely shape, and they are movers.

What I have to make better in breeding is the front part.

I don’t show my borzois very much it doesn´t matter for me what titles they my have. I don´t breed on that. I go on shows for fun, meeting people talk, and when I have a good day I’m happy when I have a bad day so what, I know what I have, and that the judge and I don’t agree, well!

So all this titles everyone keep writing in front of his or her dogs doesn’t improve on me.

I must like the dogs I breed on; I want them healthy and sound.

I want a nice functional Borzoi, who fit in as a familymember in there new home.

I love to see them move free around, that´s honey for the soul.

What I’m planning for the future: a litter on Ivegill´s Lady Linyha the sister of Ludmilla.

Then the next step will be Ivegill´s Lady Easter Witch I think or a last litter on Ludmilla, she is a wonderful breeding bitch, easy and quick having puppies, a lovely mother.

That’s all about kennel Ivegill´s, have a look at my homepage and see for your self what I have been doing it is a bit more then I have written about here.

Best regards
