Kennel Story

Kennel Meyta (Laura Hyatt)

it was 25 years ago this year(2001; red.) that i acquired my first borzoi. her name was
natasha. she was a self black bitch who was a decendent of deljer kennels in
wisconsin, usa. natasha was a pet and the start for me to develope an eye
for the breed.

my second borzoi was purchased in 1981 as a 3 month old from patricia smith,
andvell borzoi. this girl was ch. andvell sara borgia. i took along my
trusty borzoi standard so i could pick out my perfect borzoi puppy. i truly
didn't know anything about borzoi and  chose sara because i liked the sable
with her gold color. lucky for me she was a very good foundation bitch. the
1st year showing her was interesting, i didn't know how to show a dog and
still managed to get 2 majors-back to back and she was in the top 10 bitches
mbc statistics.
sara was bred to can. ch. chernenkoff tavarish who was phenotypical to sara.
out of that breeding came am&can ch meyta sabaka who finished in canada in 3
shows. ch. meyta's arabella of regency was bred to steve and kc artley's ch.
tahoes tom terrific. i believe the entire litter finished their
championship.

i also kept a tri-colored bitch meyta's tiffany who was pointed but didn't
like shows but probably had the strongest impact for meyta.
i purchase insight's eros around 1987 who finished am ch with 3- 4 point
majors from specialties and a supported entry. eros was bred to tiffany, 2
heavy marked dogs to produce  mbiss am and can ch meyta's dostoyevski
(radi), meyta's diamond in the rough and ch.meyta's donya(anne
midgarden, teine) . all of the other pups were placed in good pet homes
although several could have been shown to their championship.

radi stayed here and has produced nicely for several kennels. i still
receive inquiries for stud service but he's retired with the possibility of
1 more breeding if he's capable.
radi was bred to laba's veruska meyta to produce 3 self colored bitches,
meyta's endora, ch.meyta's eclectic and ch. meyta's emerald.
endora was the first to acquire a specialty winners bitch.  the judge was
borzoi breeder gwen post who incidentally gave radi best of breed. it was a
good day. endora was later owned by pat shaw. endora was just a major away i
believe when she passed away unexpectantly.

eclectic(niki) was w.b. at the detroit specialty under jay cunningham.  niki
is coowned with joan tierney(jetco). joan is responsible for niki's
obedience and lure coursing titles.

emerald is coowned with jennifer frank(annwn)who finished emmy quickly, 6
shows i believe.  emmy has a litter of 3 pups sired by j.a.y. jp raija at
meyta(radi x ch. seabury laralai). they are about 8 weeks old now. pups are
cobred by jennifer and myself.

another notable dog here is ch. attaway scarlet sage cresset bred by melissa
pierce and susan blanchard. coowned with wayne miller. pippen was w.d. at
the atlanta national in 97 under pat murphy. i have been told this show was
one of the largest borzoi entries.

pippen has been bred twice for meyta. there are pointed young dogs out of
endora's litter.i kept a self red bitch, griselda form this breeding and she
is pointed.   he was also bred to veruska, i kept a self black bitch out of
this breeding who is just under a year old.

we have 2 young males sired by radi out of seabury laralei, raija and
redmond. they are just 17 months old.
one more borzoi bitch here is koroba's crystal czarina, a radi grandaughter
bred by john heiter and anne legualt. i hope to get her out in the ring this
year. she just turned 3.

i ventured outside the breed some 13 plus years ago to find my perfect
saluki, this was ch. clarinda sunna isis of meyta,(hunni) she was wb and bow
1991 at the saluki national, and finished her championship quickly.
she was a littermate to mbiss clarinda sunna sarea bashir. also aunt to
sundown alabaster treasure.

25 yrs sounds like a long time to be in the breed, it really went fast with
so many good memories and good friendships and great bonds with our 4 legged
friends along the way.. i'm looking forward to the next 25.
